About Us

This website is owed, run and edited by Shel Banks - a mother of three from Lancashire, England. Shel is a member of the NCT and also a Peer Supporter with the BfN, having been training with the Breastfeeding Network since 2002. She works in Infant Feeding in the local PCT and a local hospital in their moves toward UNICEF Baby Friendly accredication and was involved with the Be A Star campaign locally, and also co-ordinates the local Mothers Milk Depot. For more than eight years she has been supporting women with infant feeding issues on the women's online community iVillage.co.uk - principally having been Community Leader on the Breastfeeding Support board since it began in May 2002.

Set up in response to an obvious gap in the provision of reliable, impartial, up to date and independent information about infant feeding, specifically infant formulae, to parents and carers and parents-to-be, and also to health professionals, this website began in October 2008. As such, it is still being built, and though we have lots of information to share, free of charge, to all who wish to view it, not all of it is yet 'live' on the site - and some of it has yet to be written, researched and put together. Some of the articles have been commissioned from and written by members of the iVillage Breastfeeding Support board and Bottle Feeding board.

While we would dearly love to be independent, the costs involved in running a website such as this, and keeping it up to date with news, content and research which is of value, mean that we will need funding.

In the fullness of time we might provide a link for users of the website to donate if they have found the information helpful to them: all contributions gratefully received! We also plan to approach advertisers once the site is ready to launch properly.

In the meantime, if you would like to provide some funding via advertising, and your company or NPO complies with the WHO Code (the World Health Organisation International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes) then please do get in touch via the contact us facility, to the right. As you can see, there's plenty of blank space to be filled with advertisements down the sides of the main site, and we're happy to discuss your requirements.
